Project: Solving the inverse problem of electrocardiography

Fatemeh Chegini is a PhD student at the Institute of Computational Science in Lugano. She received her Master degree in Intelligent Systems at USI in 2015 with a Master thesis "A Spectral Approach to Cross-Modal Information Retrieval". Her main research topic in PhD focuses on the inverse problem of cardiac electrophysiology.

Heart failure is a clinical condition which could differ between patients. To understand the problem and to design the best therapy, we need to simulate the heart and to show how the heart works, specifically the activation time of the heart cells.

The aim of the inverse problems is to reconstruct the electrical activity of the heart with the assumption that we have access to some measurements of the electrical potential on the part of the heart surface. For this, we deal with the problem of identification of a large set of parameters with massive uncertainty to reconstruct the heart’s electrical activity.
