Daniele Di Marino

Senior Post-doc, Group of Prof. Limongelli

Dr. Di Marino held his bachelor degree in Biotecnologies in 2004 followed by his master degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata 2006. He took his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2009 at the same university and during this period he mainly focused his work on the study of the mechanism of action of membrane proteins, such as the mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier by means of computational techniques (e.g. molecular modelling, molecular dynamics simulations and docking). From 2010 he spent two years in Belgium for his first PostDoc position at the K.U. Leuven in the group of Prof. Claudia Bagni. There he started to work in the field of Neurosciences, with particular regard to structural and functional characterization of the proteins involved in the Fragile X Syndrome. Working in the field of Neurosciences also allowed him to establish collaborations with the group of Dr. Tiziana Borsello at Mario Negri Institute and Prof. Monica De Luca at the University of Milan. After this experience Dr. Di Marino in 2012 moved in the group of Prof. Anna Tramontano at the University of La Sapienza for his second PostDoc, where besides his work on Fragile X Syndrome he also returned to membrane proteins, with particular interest in the computational study of the proteins’ translocation trough nanopores aimed at understanding the unfolding process. Recently, Dr. Di Marino was visiting the laboratory of Prof. Emilio Gallicchio at the City University of New York – Brooklyn College, where he also learned more about advanced parallel conformational sampling algorithms for the analysis of binding energy distribution in protein-protein interactions. In 2015 he moved at USI where he holds a Senior PosDoc position in the laboratory of Prof. Vittorio Limongelli.
